East Surrey MP Peter Ainsworth has described as "positive" discussions which were held last week (Friday) between the new owners of Whyteleafe Hall (the old officers' mess at Kenley Airfield), and local representatives.
Mr Brian Comer, of Comer Homes, who bought the site from the Government Agency Ofcom before Christmas, accepted Peter Ainsworth's invitation to meet with the Chairman of the Friends of Kenley Airfield and representatives from Croydon Council and the City of London; Richard Ottaway MP, whose constituency borders the site, was also in attendance.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss issues to do with enhanced public access to parts of the airfield and its woodland.
Commenting, Mr Ainsworth said: "I am grateful to Mr Comer for attending and listening to our point of view. Although the new owner's plans are still at a very early stage, it was clear that they understand the importance of this land to local residents. We hope to maintain a positive dialogue about how the interests of the local community can be incorporated into the future of this historic site."
