Ainsworth Backs Cameron

11 October 2005

East Surrey MP, Peter Ainsworth has announced that he will be voting for David Cameron to become Leader in the forthcoming ballot of Conservative MPs.

Peter Ainsworth says “I took time to come to a decision; each of the candidates has great merit, and whoever wins the final contest will deserve the united support of all members and supporters of the Party.

“Having studied all their proposals I feel that David Cameron is best placed to lead the Conservatives back to Government at the next opportunity.

“After three General Election defeats, everyone accepts that to return to Government the Party needs to change the way it presents its core beliefs and expresses itself. We need to show compassion to the weakest in society, to act on the threats to our local and global environment and security, and to reward hard work and enterprise.

“I believe that David Cameron has set out an agenda which connects with these aspirations.”
