Peter Ainsworth celebrates National Tree Week

22 November 2007

To celebrate National Tree Week, East Surrey MP, Peter Ainsworth, is to officially open a new pond dipping platform at Lingfield Nature Reserve at 1pm on Saturday 24th November.

The platform is funded by grants from the Breathing Places Lottery Fund, Defra, Tandridge District Council and the Lingfield Marathon, and has been constructed to promote the ‘outdoor classroom’ aims of the Reserves. This will encourage young people to learn about the local native pond wildlife at future pond-dipping events, starting again next Spring.

The first item to take place on this Saturday afternoon as part of the 2007 annual National Tree Planting Week event will be at 1 pm when Peter Ainsworth MP will officially open the new pond dipping platform on the Nature Reserves.

The official opening will be followed by a tree planting, where Mr Ainsworth will join children form youth groups and local schools, in planting a new Youth Copse on Beacon Field. More nectar plants are to be planted in the Butterfly Garden and catkin bearing Willows for the Wild Flower Meadow.
