Officers at Surrey County Council have recommended to the Planning and Regulation Committee that the application by Tarmac to erect a Dry Silo Mortar plant at North Park Farm in Godstone should be approved.
However, the recommendation stresses that the Tarmac site should work strictly in accordance with the Planning Permissions granted to WBB on the same site in 2004. WBB’s development became controversial amongst Godstone residents due to numerous breaches of planning conditions. WBB is now applying for retrospective planning consent.
Peter Ainsworth said:
“The Council has found itself between a rock and a hard place with this application. Officers have had to take into account huge opposition from the local residents, but ultimately they have to work within planning law set by Government.
He went on to say:
“Residents will insist that the application and recommendation be scrutinised very closely by the planning committee and that, if they are approved, conditions are policed adequately and enforced.
“Tarmac’s plans threaten to create a hideous eyesore on the edge of Godstone and it is perverse that, in the opinion of Surrey’s planning experts, there are apparently no grounds for refusal.”
