East Surrey MP Peter Ainsworth today met up with County Councillors and Surrey Highways officers to discuss the vexed issue of potholes in the Tandridge and Horley areas. Mr Ainsworth has been campaigning for much needed improvements in the quality of local roads following a spate of complaints from residents.
Commenting on the discussions, Peter Ainsworth said:
"I am grateful to County Councillor David Munroe, who recently assumed overall responsibility for roads across Surrey, for coming to see the problem for himself. He was good enough to admit that the response to the growing number of potholes in our roads earlier this year had been inadequate, and expressed his determination to put things right. I very much welcome that, and there is already evidence that action is now being taken to improve the response time when potholes are reported, as well as evidence that the Highways Department are taking a more pro-active stance on the issue.
"There is still some way to go, but it is good to see the County responding to public concerns.
"Anyone with concerns about potholes in their area should contact the County on 08456 009 009.
"The County Council say that they are determined to raise their game, and I will continue to monitor the situation carefully."
