Commenting on the news that DEFRA has approved another site for GM potato trials, Peter Ainsworth, Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, said:

“There is no public appetite for GM potatoes, so today's announcement seems rather academic. However, if the trial goes ahead, it will be essential to ensure that there is an absolutely minimal risk of cross-contamination, and that there is clarity over who would be liable were problems to arise.”
