Energy Plans Threaten to Blot Landscape

30th Janaury 2007

East Surrey MP Peter Ainsworth has responded to residents' concerns about a proposal from Star Energy to undertake exploratory drilling at Kings Farm, Tilburstow Hill Road, South Godstone.

Star Energy have recently held public exhibitions outlining their plans to drill boreholes to check the gas stock at the site. Star Energy have said that, if the stocks are found to be depleted, it may be possible to store imported oil in gas voids at the site.

Peter Ainsworth said:

“Like many residents, I am concerned that this work could pave the way for future developments on this part of the Green Belt.”

He went on to say:

“As far as I am concerned, this land is entirely unsuitable for any kind of industrial development. It is within the Green Belt, covers an Area of Local Landscape Significance, and will mean additional HGV traffic on a road where there are already problems with lorry movements.

“I urge all residents who share these concerns to contact:

The Planning Administration Team
Environment and Regulation
Surrey County Council
County Hall
Kingston upon Thames
Surrey KT1 2DY. ”
