Following the Government imposed cap on Police Funding earlier this year which resulted in the Council Tax re-bill of Surrey’s residents, East Surrey MP Peter Ainsworth has obtained a breakdown of the related costs. The total cost of re-billing in Tandridge was £50, 983 or £1.24 per bill, and a total of £85, 730 or £1.45 per bill in Reigate and Banstead. Mr Ainsworth commented: “Surrey’s MPs were united against this cap, and now we can see just where these supposed ‘savings’ for the taxpayer have gone – on printing costs, postage, and administration rather than into the pockets of the taxpayer, or to supporting our local police. What a terrible waste of our money."
