East Surrey MP, Peter Ainsworth, has accepted his second award in a matter of weeks at the ‘Sustainable Oscars’ for his outstanding work across select committees, on and off the front bench and most recently through the passage of his Private Members Bill: the Green Energy (definition and promotion) Act.

The House of Commons award, presented to him last Wednesday by Lord Hunt of Kings Heath, Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, was given by The Parliamentary Group for Renewable and Sustainable Energy (PRASEG) in recognition of Mr Ainsworth’s enduring commitment to environmental causes.

In response to receiving the award Peter said:

“This is becoming a bit embarrassing. I have focussed on environmental issues in Parliament because I believe that they matter locally and globally. In the end, the environment is where we all live, and we’d better look after it. I am delighted to accept this award from PRASEG; the work goes on”.

The event was hosted by BBC Environment Correspondent, Sarah Mukherjee, and sponsored by Scottish and Southern Energy.
