Commenting on the news that Surrey Police will appeal the Government’s decision to cap the level of funding they receive, East Surrey MP Peter Ainsworth said:

“It is about time the Government gave Surrey Police a fair funding deal. This cap goes to show that they don’t understand the problems we face. 

“The reason Surrey Police rely so heavily on the precept from Surrey County Council is because the current funding formula doesn’t take into account the reality of policing in the county; like the fact that almost half of the crime committed in Surrey is carried out by criminals from across the border. 

“I support Surrey Police in appealing against the Government’s decision; it is unfortunate that it has become such a struggle, but it also is vital that residents right across the county get the level of service they deserve.”
