East Surrey MP Peter Ainsworth has leant his support to a ‘No Cold Calling Zone’ in Woldingham. The new initiative – which will cover 29 roads and around 900 homes – is being run in collaboration by Surrey Trading Standards, Surrey County Council, Surrey Police and Neighbourhood Watch. The aim of the zone is to deter unwanted door-to-door salesmen and empower residents to have the confidence to close the door on unwanted visitors. Speaking on the launch, Mr Ainsworth said: "This is an extremely welcome initiative which has my full support. I warmly congratulate all who have come together to form this partnership. Nobody likes cold callers and, even if they are genuine, their work and services are frequently shoddy. Worse still, they are often associated with crimes of burglary.” "Evidence from elsewhere in Surrey shows that a No Cold Calling Zone can significantly reduce crime, and provide reassurance to residents. So well done Woldingham Neighbourhood Watch, the Police and Surrey Trading Standards. "Let's send out the message loud and clear: Cold callers in Woldingham will be given the cold shoulder."
