East Surrey MP Peter Ainsworth has welcomed the news that two independent preparatory schools in the Oxted area are to merge.

It has been announced that Hazlewood School and Laverock School are to join forces to offer education to children from the age of six months to thirteen years.

Peter Ainsworth said: "This merger unites two excellent and complementary schools which together will be able to offer a full service for younger pupils. I am particularly pleased that a decision has been taken to retain the Laverock name, with its long traditions, at the school in Bluehouse Lane.

"I wish staff, parents and pupils all the very best as they prepare to work together."
