East Surrey MP, Peter Ainsworth, today visited North Downs Hospital in Caterham as part of a campaign by local doctors to secure a better antenatal screening service for local mums.

Following Government guidelines, changes have been made to antenatal screening – and screening for Down’s syndrome in particular – which have proved unpopular with GPs and patients, with the new tests deemed to be less accurate.

Peter Ainsworth said:

“I am concerned that local doctors believe that the Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust has signed up to a second class deal and I very much hope that the Trust will reconsider its decision.”
