East Surrey MP, Peter Ainsworth, has written to the Government-appointed Planning Inspector, Simon Emerson, to raise his concern over Reigate and Banstead’s Core Strategy and the future of Redhill Aerodrome.

In the Strategy, the Aerodrome is marked as an area for possible future development despite it being protected by Green Belt legislation.

Mr Ainsworth said:

“I am deeply concerned by such an explicit reference to an area of the Green Belt which I am in no doubt should be left alone. The plot is owned by speculative developers, and such references will only lead to cynical speculation, and understandable local concern.

“I have raised my concerns with the Government’s Planning Inspector, making it quite clear to him that I find this approach to be unnecessary and undesirable”
