East Surrey MP, Peter Ainsworth, has expressed his satisfaction with Surrey County Council’s decision to install traffic signs designed to prevent HGV lorries from using Harts Lane in Godstone. The move comes after Peter contacted the Highways department and the police on behalf of local residents.

The signs, which will be placed at the eastern end of the A22 junction hopefully before the end of this financial year, will come as a relief to local residents, who have expressed deep concern about HGVs using the single-track road as a short-cut.

Mr Ainsworth said:

“I am extremely pleased to learn from the Acting Head of Highways at Surrey County Council that these signs are to be installed.  I have been contacted by a number of local residents, who have been perturbed not only about the safety threat posed by lorries using this road, but also by local environmental impacts.  This situation has been ongoing for some time, hence the Council’s decision is warmly welcomed”.
