East Surrey MP Peter Ainsworth has expressed his satisfaction that the new owners of Gatwick have effectively ruled out seeking to build a second runway for a generation.

Speaking after Gatwick Chairman Sir David Rowlands said that he had "not a shred of interest in a second runway", Peter Ainsworth commented:

"I am absolutely delighted that the spectre of a second runway at Gatwick - with all that it would entail in terms of housebuilding, noise, road congestion, and pollution - has finally been laid to rest. This issue has been hovering around for all of the 18 years during which I have been an MP and Sir David's words will come as a huge relief to all who care about the local environment.

Ainsworth Questions Minister on Whaling Print

On Thursday 4th February, Mr Ainsworth questioned the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Huw Irranca-Davies, on whaling during DEFRA oral questions.

Mr Ainsworth said he felt “compelled” to ask the Government whether it would be instrumental in seeking an to end to whaling and what recent assessment had been made about the effectiveness of the Whaling Commission.

Ainsworth pledges to "do his bit" for British Armed Forces Print

East Surrey MP, Peter Ainsworth, has pledged to do his bit for the British Armed Forces family.

Mr Ainsworth made the pledge on The Royal British Legion’s campaign website, www.timetodoyourbit.org.uk.

The website also features the charity’s general election manifesto, which sets out priorities for the next Government to improve conditions for Service Personnel and their families, the bereaved, veterans and dependants.
